We are upgrading our network with Zcash Sapling on 15th December 2018. This is the biggest ever upgrade Komodo has ever made and it therefore requires extensive work. This article is for all Ledger users who use/store KMD on a Ledger device.

Ledger is a 3rd party hardware wallet service and it doesn't yet support Sapling. We hope that Ledger Sapling support will be ready before X-mas or January 2019. We know how important it is for you and we are working alongside Ledger to implement Sapling support as soon as possible. Until then, there are multiple options for valuable Komodo users who store their coins on a Ledger device.

  1. Keep your Komodo in Ledger if you are hodling and don't want/need to use them for next 1-2 months, until Ledger adds support for Sapling. Ledger is working on this now.

  2. If you need to spend funds, you can use the Offline Transaction Signing tool inside Komodo’s Agama wallet and send transaction that way (this method requires an online and an offline computer and ability to follow instruction).

  3. Move your funds into Agama with Komodo in native mode (downloading the KMD blockchain and running a full node).

  4. Use the private key to login into Agama Lite mode directly and move the funds off Ledger.

  5. Use the private key in Agama Mobile wallet for Android or iOS (iOS  app available via Apple TestFlight app).

  6. Use Coinomi mobile wallet. Coinomi Wallet is proud to have been a part of the Komodo Ecosystem for over a year, and is now fully updated for the major Komodo Sapling update on 15th of December. (Versions 1.11.10 Android and 1.3.8 iOS). Update from Google Play Store, iTunes Store, or directly download the apk from https://coinomi.com

Options 1 & 2 are the most secure. Options 3, 4 & 5 expose your pubkey and are therefore not as secure as the first two options. Use options 3, 4 & 5 at your own risk.

Options 2, 3, 4 & 5 will give the users ability to claim KMD active user rewards while using Agama Lite or Native.

Important related guides and articles:

  1. Retrieve private key of Komodo address from Ledger using Agama securely in an offline computer

  2. Sign transaction securely offline and broadcast it online using Agama

  3. Import Komodo private key into Agama native mode

  4. Claim Komodo 5% active user reward using Agama

  5. Agama download and install guides

  • As long as you have the Ledger Recovery Phrase safe, your funds are safe in there.

  • Never share your Recovery phrase with anyone or upload it online.

  • Ledger doesn't support Komodo Active User Rewards.

  • Don't send any funds using your Ledger directly after 15 December 2018.

  • Once Ledger adds support for Sapling, we will announce it immediately.
